Corner House prevention programs reach thousands of public and private school students in Princeton and the surrounding communities each year. Our prevention programs, designed to be age-appropriate, fun and educational, stress:

  • Healthy decision-making skills
  • Coping techniques
  • Positive self-image
  • Substance abuse refusal skills for everyday living

Prevention Philosophy

At Corner House we strive to turn the challenges of adolescence into opportunities for growth. We recognize that young people face difficult decisions as they transition through important phases of development and need the tools necessary to help them make healthy choices and lead productive lives. Our prevention programs stress positive self-image, strategies for dealing with peer pressure, effective decision-making and coping techniques, and substance abuse refusal skills.

Student Leadership Programs

Corner House’s flagship student leadership programs offer valuable opportunities to the student/peer facilitators, as well as the group participants, and reinforce positive role modeling and social skills development. Every summer, Corner House sponsors a Student Leadership Institute to prepare student leaders for the upcoming school year with team building activities, leadership skills development, and substance abuse prevention education. In 2008, the Harriet Robertson Student Leadership Award was established and will be presented annually by Corner House to, "an outstanding high school senior who possesses the capacity to lead and the ability to positively influence others."

Student Leader Pledge

By accepting a position on a Corner House Student Leadership Team (CHSB, TAG, GAIA), I understand that I am considered a role model for other students at all times and I will make every effort to serve Corner House and the community with honesty and integrity, abiding by the following expectations:

  • I will make every effort to abstain from using alcohol, tobacco and drugs while I serve on a CH leadership team;
  • I will make every effort to be accepting and inclusive of all people regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or beliefs;
  • I will make every effort to attend weekly team meetings, workshops, and Corner House program activities; and,
  • I will be honest with my team and team advisors about any challenges I face regarding any of these expectations.
